Get ready before your trip

We've put together tips and practical advice to help you enjoy your time away from home without worrying too much about bowel issues.

Practical tips that might help you enjoy your time away

Leaving your home for an extended period of time is a big step, and one that requires you to make some extra preparations for both your journey and stay.

  • Ensure you have an up-to-date travel insurance policy.
  • Order adequate products for your journey, and make sure you order them well in advance as the last thing you want to do is run out while you're away.
  • If you're travelling on an aeroplane, divide your supplies between bags, just in case your luggage is lost or the flight is delayed. But remember to always keep essentials in your hand luggage.
  • Pack a smart kit: with everything you might need in case something happens. Whether you are flying, driving or travelling by coach, it is nice to have your most needed supplies and personal belongings close.
  • If it helps you feel more secure, consider using Peristeen Plus before you travel. Making sure your bowels are empty is a good way to reduce the risk of an accident while travelling.
  • To avoid problems at airport security, make sure your water bag is empty.
  • Bring your disability card. If you have a disability, it might be possible to get a card you can show. Ask your healthcare provider or your local association about it.

Make a packing list

You can never be too prepared. Download a packing list to help you remember everything you need.

Know where the nearest toilets are

Download our free WheelMate™ app from Google Play or the App Store. It makes it easier to find clean, accessible, and nearby toilets when you’re away - wherever you are. Whether you're local or travelling, WheelMate can help you plan your day.

Bring a travel certificate

Fill out and bring an enclosed travel certificate. Note the name of your product(s) on the travel certificate and/or Coloplast around the world – taking a picture of them may also be a good idea.

Plan ahead

If you’re travelling for an extended time, make sure you have enough supplies ordered to take with you.

Where possible, stick to your normal routine. Make sure to wash your hands before and after using Peristeen Plus. As a general rule, tap water that is safe to drink is also safe to use for your irrigations. If in doubt, use bottled water at room temperature or cooled boiled water.

It’s common to suffer from an upset stomach while travelling so don’t worry if this happens to you. Carry a copy of your prescription details and take your doctor’s contact information with you in case you have questions while away. Being aware of local medical services could also be useful.
